Scandinavian Design Interior Elements

1. Color and Scheme

The well-known Scandinavian style emphasizes adding primary light shades like gray, blue, white, and light colors, particularly pastel colors. It is important to note that you only need to use one to two main colors.

Color is prominent in Scandinavian decor, with white as the primary color.

A white gamut looks like snow, offering individuals a feeling of height widening. From that, it could contrast its light, which is ideal for winter since it is frequently underexposed during this season.

Furthermore, you can merge white with other color systems, such as black, turquoise, cream, and light gray, to greatly lower monotony or increase youthfulness. When designing a space in a lovely Nordic style, the criteria are lightness as well as visual neutrality.

Finally, keep all decorative parts to a minimum. Consider the discrepancies; if desired, you could decorate another few plants and add basic accessories such as curtains, photo frames, rugs, etc. It will improve the aesthetics of your house.

2. Material

Natural materials have a very important place in Scandinavian decor. Perhaps everyone has seen the image of Vikings in classic movies about pirates, and explorers with armor, fur coats, and wooden boats.

Therefore, all materials used in this style reflect the vernacular nature of the Nordic people.

Wood

One common material that is frequently used in Nordic-style design. Teak is the most commonly used wood. Utilizing wood to add vitality or warmth to your apartment is a never-wrong decision. In addition, wood is also used quite a lot in office furniture, creating a closeness to nature.

Stone

Besides wood, stone is crucial when people design the Scandinavian layout.

For powerful positions like wall cladding or kitchen surfaces, the stone used in Scandinavian decor would typically be white. One important thing to remember would be that marble would never be utilized in this Interior decoration.

Fur

When renovating each apartment area, the Nordic interior architecture incorporates mostly furs or leather to emphasize its simplicity. The fur feature adds luxury to the internal spaces as a carpet and wall decoration.

A piece of white fur is the perfect accent

3. Lighting

As a style formed in the cold of the Nordic sky, the space needs to be cozy, away from the gloom of the long winter. Therefore, lighting in this style is very important. Light is amplified by whatever means necessary.

Lighting is an important consideration in European-style furniture decorating. It’s even more essential for Scandinavians. Most Nordic models combine large window frames and a thin white curtain to obtain natural light sources.

In addition, you must start making the best use of artificial lighting systems to maintain the inherent luminosity and coziness of Scandinavian design, including rattan lamps and copper lamps.

Light hardwood is usually the first preference for Scandinavian furniture decorating. Except for the bathroom, it is suitable for use in any space. When you have dark flooring, you could lighten the area with specialty floor product lines or re-oil them in a bright tone.

5 Scandinavian Concepts

Hygge

“Hygge” is briefly understood as a “warm feeling.” This concept is a healthy lifestyle, comfortably enjoying life’s simple and small things. “Hygge” is spreading strongly worldwide, and since then, the Scandinavian design style following the “Hygge” trend has also become increasingly popular.

Hygge furniture is associated with wood through furniture and interior decorations. Wooden materials such as living room tea tables, dining tables, chairs, or even furniture accessories or utensils for daily activities are always used to create a feeling of familiarity, closeness, and attachment.

Lagom

Lagom has a simple but essential style in interior design; homeowners can imagine this style through the way people make furniture with monotonous lines that seem elegant.

Or through compact houses, open space design welcomes all warm light into the home. When you love this style, congratulations because you have learned how to master yourself, balance your life, and know what is “just enough.”

FRILUFTSLIV

This concept is a design style that promotes fresh air, close to nature. The idea of interior design style Friluftsliv is a guest spelling of the phrase “free-loves-liv,” which means “in harmony with nature.”

The love for nature and the bonding of family members on picnics inspires this design style.

FIKA

Fika is one Swedish word for a break throughout a day, one duration to relax with a coffee or tea or recharge. Workplace mindfulness, Fika, enables us to feel better while being more effective and meaningful.

Add one reading corner of soft lighting, one window seat of built-in shelves, or the patio furniture to support you to breathe in the fresh air during all those regular breaks.

Sisu

Sisu can be found in Scandinavian design because it integrates personal items. As previously stated, Scandinavian design is more than just minimalism—incorporating things that are meaningful to you is crucial.

Sisu serves to remind everyone to include such pieces as a flower pot from one’s honeymoon in Morocco, paintings by your children, or even a decorative hand-sewn by the grandmother.

How to Choose Furniture for Scandinavian Design

The internal environment and style must organize furniture. Decorations for Scandinavian design include folding stylish wooden chairs and big sofa sets. Isn’t this a fantastic combination?

Another minor detail worth noting is that users should prioritize purchasing as few things as possible when purchasing home furniture. They don’t use a lot of patterns due to this interior style. Instead, they choose versatile items in basic colors.

This choice will create an airy, comfortable space, not secretive but fully equipped.

Deep-hue sofas are a useful item in Scandinavian interior design. Dark fabric interiors in gray, deep blue, or light gray are commonly used, with square or rounded structures and wooden legs, to stand out and create a forceful Nordic style.

Scandinavian style is a combination of all the right Scandinavian furniture. The typical colors of this style are neutral, gentle colors with a color palette that clings to accents such as white, black, white, and blue. This style reflects the winter landscapes and skies of the Nordic countries.

Today, the prominent trend in this design is white walls emphasizing light, a neutral palette with many colors, and natural materials such as stone and wood. The layout is not Simple, and the unfussy space clearly emphasizes the minimalist yet elegant aesthetic.

Conclusion

Scandinavian Design Interior style (also known as Nordic) combines 3 elements: minimalism – beauty – convenient function. This style is popular because of its warmth, simplicity, and ventilation, creating comfort in your living space.
